What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a high-purity urea solution that can be used on motor vehicles fitted with SCR technology. AdBlue is produced according to the German standard DIN 70070 and European standard ISO/PAS 22241-1. Only the product meeting the aforementioned standards may be marked with the AdBlue trademark. AdBlue produced by AB "Achema" and distributed by "Gaschema", the branch of "Achema", is the only certified product of such type in Baltic region.
What is SCR?
SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is a selective exhaust gas cleaning system that uses a catalyst with AdBlue. The system consists of a catalyst, dispenser, nozzle and tank with the AdBlue liquid. Exhaust gas is directed to a selective catalyst. At the same time, the AdBlue solution is injected to a catalyst. During the chemical reaction, nitrogen oxide (NOx) gas and solids are converted to absolutely harmless substances, i.e. water vapour (H2O) and nitrogen (N2).
Savings with AdBlue?
Application of this technology enables optimum engine operation. Emission of solids is reduced, whereas fuel energy is maximised. Another important result of the process is reduction of fuel consumption by 5% on the average. Furthermore, additional savings are available as lower road taxes are applied on EU roads for the trucks, which are using AdBlue.
Packing
"Gaschema" offers AdBlue in plastic tanks of 10 and 20 litres, and IBC containers of 1000 litres that may be delivered to any place requested by the client. Besides, for bigger clients we may install stationary dispensers of 4000-20000 litres.
AdBlue is already available at filling stations, therefore, it may be bought similarly as fuel.
Quality
Lithuania witnesses the growing number of unspecialised companies that try to produce urea solution themselves by dissolving urea in water. However, such a solution neither has the quality certificate nor shall be supplied with quality certificate. Usage of such a solution causes lime scale on a catalyst of a motor vehicle therefore to repair the vehicle costs much more the one thousand euros. The same destiny will be shared by a catalyst if AdBlue is replaced by water or diluted. If a motor vehicle will be driven with empty AdBlue tank, a catalyst will be definitely fouled with soot.
AdBlue which is distributed by Gaschema is certified by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). Quality of each produced batch of the product is checked by AB "Achema" and Vilnius Independent Laboratory; each batch is supplied with quality certificate. The product is filled into exceptionally clean containers and sealed. These measures are applied in order to ensure the highest quality of the product.
Other Facts About AdBlue
Average consumption of AdBlue is 1,5 l/100 km. For motor vehicles complying with the Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards consumption of AdBlue is from 4% to 6% with respect to fuel consumption. There are a few major factors that determine the quantity of AdBlue consumption; these are fuel quality and an engine operation mode (loads).
For the time being, all newly registered trucks are fitted with special onboard diagnostic systems (OBD) able to control toxicity parameters of exhaust gas. The systems warn drivers of an empty AdBlue tank. If a driver proceeds driving without AdBlue, the diagnostic system will automatically switch on the engine torque limiter that will enable the engine to achieve just 60% of the maximum engine torque and will store the data on driving without AdBlue.
| Safety AdBlue is harmless both for humans and animals. It is non-toxic, non-flammable and non-explosive. The liquid crystallises at the temperature below -11oC, however, this fact has no influence on its later usage. After starting the motor vehicle, the liquid thaws preserving its quality. In case of skin contact with the liquid, wash immediately with plenty of water. In case of ingestion, immediately drink plenty of water and seek medical advice.
