Acetylene, which is also called ethyne, is an organic chemical substance classified as alkyne of a hydrocarbon group and consisting of two hydrogen and two carbon atoms joined together by a trivalent bond. Due to this reason, it is an unsaturated hydrocarbon. At normal conditions, acetylene is colourless gas lighter than air and featuring low solubility in water. Density of acetylene is 1.09670 kg/m3, whereas the melting point is -84°C and boiling point is -80.8°C.

The vast majority of the produced acetylene is further used for synthesis of other chemical elements, whereas around one fifth of the produced acetylene is applied by burning it for welding and cutting operations as well as for flame cleaning. Burning acetylene has extra high flame temperature (app. 3300 °C) and releases 11.8 kJ/g heat. Sometimes acetylene is applied for so-called acetylene-lamps used in mines or in cave exploration. In this case, acetylene is obtained by dripping water from the container onto the granules of calcium carbide (CaC2) in lamps.

Gaschema offers you acetylene by 40 l (5 kg, 150 bar). Acetylene is filled into maroon or white cylinders.
